PRELUDE

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Blessed is God, who hears our prayers,
Whose steadfast love endures forever.
There is no greater love than this:
To lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Let us worship God!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you know when we are afraid to love; you know when we are too cowardly to show mercy. We walk away from neighbors in need, wrapped in our own concerns. We condone evil, prejudice, warfare, and greed. Remind us again that perfect love casts out such fears. God of grace, help us to admit our sin, so that as you come to us in mercy, we may repent, turn to you, and receive forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

HYMN - There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy

SCRIPTURE READING - Psalm 66:8-20
This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING - 1 John 4:16b-21
This is the Word of the Lord.

SERMON - Because God First Loved Us

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - 1 Corinthians 15
This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved if we hold it fast: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, and that he appeared first to the women, then to Peter, and to the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God. Jesus Christ is the first and the last, the beginning and the end; he is our Lord and our God. Amen.
