PRAYER OF PREPARATION

O God, light of the minds that know you, life of the souls that love you, strength of the thoughts that seek you: Help us so to know you that we may truly love you, so to love you that we may fully serve you, whose service is perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.  (Gelasian Liturgy 8th century)

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS               Rev. Nadine Ellsworth-Moran

*CALL TO WORSHIP (Ministry Matters - inspired by 1 Kings 17, Ps146, Luke 7)

Strangers meet.
Oil and grain turn to bread.
The sick are healed.
      The weary are lifted up.
The prisoners are set free.
      The everyday becomes a miracle.
This is God’s work.
       We are its witnesses.
Let us worship God
.

God of Mercy, forgive us for our low expectations of you, of others, of the world.  Remind us that you are an expansive God and no person, place, or situation is beyond your reach or your love. Give us a spirit of openness to grand possibilities and enormous grace, for you have proven both to us by Christ, your Son, in whom all things come together for good and through whom we receive overflowing mercies.

*SILENT PRAYER

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.

                                               Chancel Choir

This joyful Eastertide, away with sin and sorrow!
My Love, the Crucified, hath sprung to life this morrow.

Refrain: Had Christ, that once was slain, ne’er burst His three day prison,
Our faith had been in vain: but now hath Christ arisen.

My flesh in hope shall rest, and for a season slumber:
Till trump from east to west shall wake the dead in number.  Refrain

Death’s flood hath lost his chill, since Jesus crossed the river:
Lover of souls, from ill my passing soul deliver.  Refrain

SERMON                            Where Does It Stop?         Rev. Ellsworth-Moran

*Affirmation of Faith
(excerpts from a Song of Faith, The United Church of Canada)

God is Holy Mystery, beyond complete knowledge, above perfect description.  Yet, in love, the one eternal God seeks relationship…We find God made known in Jesus of Nazareth, and so we sing of God the Christ, the Holy One embodied…In Jesus’ life, teaching, and self-offering, God empowers us to live in love. In Jesus’ resurrection, God overcomes death. Nothing separates us from the love of God… We sing of the Spirit, faithful and untameable, who is creatively and redemptively active in the world…We place our hope in God. We sing of a life beyond life…we yearn for the coming future, even while participating in eternal life now.  Amen.
