A new (old) commandment

At 10:30 AM, we will worship together live via Facebook Video Premiere and the RPMC YouTube page PRELUDE WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from PCUSA /BOCW) The Lord is the light of the hearts that see him. The Lord is the life of the souls that love him. He is the strength of the thoughts that seek him: To turn from the Lord is to fall, to turn to the Lord is to rise, To abide in the Lord is to stand fast forever. Let us worship the Lord! PRAYER OF CONFESSION Lord of Peace and Mercy, you have made promises and we have doubted them. You give us hope and we look for reasons to despair. You show us the paths of righteousness yet we cling to our familiar ways, even when they lead us to stumble. In Christ, you embody a loving peace that we may also share, and still we provoke and unsettle one another with our sharp words and hurtful actions. Help us to believe, to hope, to love, and to seek peace in the new ways of life we have been given in Christ. ASSURANCE OF PARDON HYMN - Be Thou My Vision SCRIPTURE READING - Deuteronomy 7:6-9 This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever Amen. SPECIAL MUSIC - Prayer by David Guion Lord, in this hour of tumult, Lord, in this night of fears, keep open, oh, keep open my eyes, my heart, my ears. Not blindly, not in hatred, Lord, let me do my part; keep open, oh, keep open, dear Lord, my eyes, my mind, my heart! Hear Thou my pleading. Hear Thou my prayer, Lord. TIME WITH CHILDREN PASSING OF THE PEACE SPECIAL MUSIC - Go Now in Peace SCRIPTURE READING - 1 John 2:7-11 This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. SERMON - A New (Old) Commandment AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - 1 Corinthians 15 This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved if we hold it fast: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, and that he appeared first to the women, then to Peter, and to the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God. Jesus Christ is the first and the last, the beginning and the end; he is our Lord and our God. Amen.
