Reid Youth Ministries
Our purpose is to be filled by God's grace, poured out in service, together in joy!
We are called to seek opportunities to learn and be filled with God’s love and grace and share that love in service and outreach to others. Connecting it all, our fellowship together is characterized by joy and welcome.
When we gather together in Christ’s name we are called to reach out to each other, encourage one another, and treat each other with the love that Jesus modeled for us.
Dear Youth and Parents,
We have missed our Reid Youth so much over this summer! Each month the youth ministry committee has gathered to discuss, plan and determine when and how we can safely be back together in person. We are ready to be able to see you in person, laugh, joke, play games, have good conversations and pray with you. Unfortunately, we are still not there yet.
Based on our new mission statement and this pandemic world we live in how we do Youth Ministry at Reid Memorial will look different this year. We are building a diverse set of programs that will enable and create space and opportunities for our youth to build real and deep relationships with one another, and trying to do so in ways that will keep our youth and their families safe. Currently, we are planning in three stages that will help us to determine what we can do in person and what will still be offered on zoom or in other ways.
Things that are continuing or changing include:
- NEW** themed Sunday Night fellowship gathering for combined middle school and high school at least once a month outside
- NEW** Small Groups based on grade and gender meeting once a month together to do something fun and share faith together; in the next month as these group leaders are found they will be in touch with youth and their families.
- Continuing** High School Sunday school, lectionary based curriculum, "Feasting on the Word" led by Jim and Jean McKnight
- Continuing** Middle School Sunday led by Maria Jenkins
- NEW**Opt-in Mission Cohort that will be biblically based and justice centered with curriculum and consultation from Asheville Youth Mission Co.
- Continuing** Confirmation Class for 7th and 8th Grade Youth
- (Hopefully)** a Fall Retreat focused on relationship/community building
We look forward to sharing more details with you in the days ahead. The Youth Committee will next be meeting on August 23. The following week you will receive an email with a general scope for the fall, as well as the specific September plans. We plan to start our Youth year after Labor Day.
Finally, for the month of August, we plan to extend our study of Faith in Pixar Shorts for Sunday School on zoom; please see the schedule below.
