What we believe

We are followers of Jesus from Nazareth. We believe he is the Christ, a belief we share with all other Christians. We believe that Jesus the Christ is the reconciler of God and humanity. By his death on a cross, he obtained forgiveness for all wrongs. By Jesus' rising from the dead we believe he offers new and eternal life. He is our bridge to God. It is crucial to make a choice in your life journey about this man called Jesus.

Worship is the center of Christian life, and it is the center of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. Our greatest joy and delight is to worship the triune God, for there is no one who is more worthy of our love and adoration than the God who has revealed himself to us in Jesus Christ, and who has come to dwell in us through the Holy Spirit.

Our History at Reid

old reid church
Reid Memorial can trace its roots to 1879 when a community Sunday School and church building was completed to serve the small Summerville population. The fledgling community church had Wednesday evening services meeting in the already-established Church of the Good Shepherd in Summerville. There was emphasis on the religious training of the young people. These services were led by visiting ministers and speakers and several Bible study groups, which were sometimes called praying societies.

Worship at Reid Memorial

Worship here is vibrant and energizing, with opportunities to sense God’s presence through sight, sound, touch, and smell, to hear scripture read and proclaimed, to sit at table together, and to be sent out to serve. Serving others deepens your relationship with God and people. Nothing compares to laughing with, loving and supporting one another while helping others.
